The Jackson Travel Basketball program is a New Jersey registered non-profit organization that has been part of the Jackson community for over 20 years.

The intention of the Jackson program along with its association with the New Jersey Mid-Monmouth Youth Basketball League is to provide boys and girls (ages 8-13) a competitive level of play that is also firmly-rooted in providing solid basketball coaching instruction, team play, and sportsmanship.

With over 30 years of being in existence, the Mid-Monmouth League is known for its highly competitive basketball teams that enable players move on to middle and high school competition. As such, Jackson Travel Basketball seeks to field teams and skilled players who can play against neighboring teams in the Monmouth and Ocean Counties at an advanced, age-based level.

jackson Team tryouts and registration

Team Tryouts

All individual Jackson Basketball teams are selected based by age group through open try outs that are held each Fall. For each team, two tryout dates are offered to assist parents and players with their busy schedules. While interested players are encouraged to attend both tryouts, they are only required to attend one practice in order to be considered eligible for a given team.

Making the Team

Each team’s roster selection is left to the discretion of the coaching staff. Upon completion of the second tryout, the team’s head coach will contact parents and players within a few days and issue invitations to those to be a part of the team. Because each team typically fields 10-12 players, not all players who try out are automatically on a team. While the Jackson Travel Basketball program is not affiliated with Jackson Township Recreation, players who do not make a given team are strongly encouraged to continue playing within that program.

Team Roles and Playing Time

As with the selection of the age group’s individual team, equal playing time for players is not guaranteed and is decided by each team’s coaching staff. Similar to earning a roster spot, team roles and opportunities are earned through skill-level, demonstrated effort, and commitment to the team through attendance in practice and games.

Registration and Fees

As Jackson teams are formed, official Jackson Basketball registration and accompanying fees will be required to be eligible for the upcoming season. Membership registration fees within the Jackson Basketball program covers the Mid-Monmouth League fee, uniforms, referees, insurance, gym fees and some tournament fees. Each player will be issued numbered uniforms that are reversible (Black/White) with reversible shorts. The Fee in 2017 was $275 per player.
